Wes chose Nevada to be his home after spending four and half years at Nellis Air Force Base starting in 2007 and meeting his wife while on active duty. Wes is proud that all four of his children are native Nevadans.
The importance of hard work, service and integrity was impressed on Wes at a very early age. As the son of a UPS worker, Wes saw first-hand what it looks like to get up early on behalf of your family and punch a time clock as his dad did for 42 years at UPS. Those early lessons left an imprint on Wes and his legal career has been dedicated to serving others and keeping his community safe.
In his first job out of law school, Wes answered his nation’s call and was commissioned as an Air Force lawyer later deploying to the Central Criminal Court of Iraq where he assisted the Iraqis in prosecuting terror suspects in their court system. After his active-duty service ended in 2011, Wes joined the Air Force reserves with no break in service and was recently selected for promotion to full colonel (0-6), serving in a variety of leadership positions.
Currently, Wes is the elected City Attorney in the City of Sparks. Prior to becoming City Attorney, Wes has held a variety of legal positions honing his legal and leadership skills. He was the Chief Assistant City Attorney for Sparks, the First Assistant Attorney General for the Nevada Attorney General’s Office, a felony prosecutor in Washoe County, a partner in a law firm and an elected State Assemblyman.
While serving as the City Attorney, Wes has been a leader on a variety of issues including domestic violence prosecutions, passing first of its kind ordinances in the region to protect children from domestic violence, shutting down illegal massage parlors, working with law enforcement passing homeless ordinances to protect Sparks residents and businesses, introducing a retail theft initiative, launching a senior scam prevention initiative and introducing a fentanyl awareness campaign targeted to youth in the community. Wes is also highly involved with training law enforcement and working cooperatively with them to protect the community.
When Wes is not at the City Attorney’s Office or on reserve duty, he and his wife Jennifer—also an Air Force veteran—are the parents to four amazing kids ages twelve, eleven, seven and one. They enjoy being active outdoors, spending time together as a family, and playing youth sports. Wes is a Christian and active in his church, enjoys coaching and watching his kids play sports, and loves to read and stay physically fit.
